World's shortest man? Pensioner from Nepal hoping to become a record breaker measuring just 22 inches tall

A pensioner has stepped forward with a big claim - that he is the world's shortest man. Chandra Bahadur Dangi, a 72-year-old Nepali, is just 56 centimetres or 22 inches tall.  Mr Dangi says he has always been ashamed of his height but his life could be on the verge of changing if he gets official recognition in the Guinness Book of Records. The current record is held by Filipino Junrey Balawing, who measures 59.93 centimeters. He claimed the title last year from Khagendra Thapa Magar, 18, whose height is 67 centimeters. The shortest to have ever lived was Gul Mohammed from India who measured 57cm when he died aged 40 in 1997. Mr Dangi, who lived in a village called Reemkholi, a few hundred miles from Kathmandu, says his height has meant he has been laughed at in freakshows and spurned by women.  Experts from the Guinness World records will travel to Nepal to measure the man. He claims to weigh just 12 kilos.  Mr Dangi, who has five brothers who are all normal height, hopes to receive recognition to make up for the years of hardship. He said: 'I think things will be better now. I hope that I will be famous all over the world. 'I want to visit foreign countries and meet people from around the world.' The cause of Mr Dangi's height problem has not been diagnosed but it is suspected that he suffers primordial dwarfism which begins in the womb.
