Bright light city! Astonishing views of London's landmarks which twinkle as the sun sets over the capital
Inching steadily above the London skyline, the Shard will be Europe’s tallest building when it is finally finished in a few weeks’ time: an extraordinary monument to glass, steel and sheer ambition. Aerial photographer Jason Hawkes took these pictures of the stunning work of architecture at dusk but the Shard is not the only landmark which stands out as the sun sets and lights begin to twinkle across the capital. Tower Bridge, the London Eye, St Paul's and Canary Wharf all look spectacular as darkness begins to blanket the city. Work on the Shard began in February 2009 and an estimated £450million has been spent on its construction so far. The building will eventually offer uninterrupted 360-degree views of the capital, stretching for 40 miles in every direction.
